BCAEM Launches New Website and Membership Management System (2010.10.29)
 

After two years on running on an ad-hoc system, BCAEM has contracted a Virtuo CMS Technologies Inc., a professional web design and hosting firm, to provide website services in the form of a Content Management System and Membership Management System. This benefits the Association and its membership in a number of ways:

  1. Professional Image
    The new website's design has been refreshed and provides the Association with a more professional image.
  2. New Service - Deployment Database
    A new service to members is the ability to self-register yourself in and search a database of emergency managers who are available to support emergency operations in the province. Every year emergency operations centres throughout BC require additional staff to supplement or provide relief for their core staff. This database can be used to search for qualitifed emergency managers who match the needs of the emergency operations centre requiring staff.
  3. Improved member record keeping & reduced demand on board members
    The membership management system allows prospective members to register and pay fees on-line. It also allows current members the ability to renew their membership on-line and keep their contact and other information up-to-date via a simple web interface. The new system does this all in the background freeing board members to focus on the key business of the Association without being bogged down by membership management.
  4. Ease of updating
    The Content Management System allows board members to update the website from within their web browser without needing to understand complex HTML or enterprise systems. This will result in more frequently updated content and the ability for multiple people to maintain the website.
  5. Social Media Integration
    While only implemented minimally on launch, the new system allows the integration with Facebook and other social media websites. If you see an article on the site that you'd like to share with your friends or colleagues, click the Facebook or Twitter icon at the top of the article to share. In the future additional social media integration will become available.
